We’re about to know who will be our mayor for the next four years.

INDIE FM has reached out to all ten mayoral candidates for Milton in the upcoming 2026 Municipal Election. We are looking to discuss their platforms and some key topics affecting residents.

Each candidate will be asked the same questions, and the interviews are being done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here is our interview with mayoral candidate, Arjun Joshi.

Q: Provide myself and the listeners a quick breakdown on your platform/campaign. Share an elevator pitch on why Miltonians should vote for you.

Q: Town Council approved the Official Plan this year. It projects Milton’s Growth all the way to 2051. Milton is famously one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, and has been so for 20-plus years. Where do you stand on Milton’s continued growth, when also considering the establish Official Plan?

Q: Let’s talking about job creation. A lot of people consider Milton to be a “bedroom community,” in that people live here but work elsewhere in the GTA. Do you have a plan to create more local work for Milton residents?

Q: And going from creating jobs to helping already existing local businesses. What’s your plan to support local, should you be voted in as mayor in the coming weeks?

Q: One of the things that Milton’s Council addressed in their final meetings was the potential of a data centre in the community. Considering the growth of artificial intelligence, but the negative impacts data centres tend to have on communities, what’s your stance on the potential of having a data centre in Milton?

Q: One of the first things this next council will be working on following the election is the 2027 Town Budget. Should you be voted in as mayor, what’s your plan to provide the services Miltonians want, while keep taxes low for those same residents?

Q: Is there anything else that you wanted to discuss that I haven’t asked about?

Advance voting will be available Monday, October 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday, October 13th through Thursday, October 15th, voting hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Town of Milton is looking for volunteers to help bring free outdoor skating to local neighbourhoods during the 2026-27 winter season.

Entering its fifth year, the neighbourhood outdoor rink program relies on volunteers to maintain and operate skating rinks at pre-approved parks, providing residents with opportunities to stay active and enjoy the winter season at no cost.

Groups of at least six adults from different households can apply to operate a rink site. Each group must designate a team leader and take responsibility for regular ice flooding, snow clearing and safety checks.

The Town provides the rink and guidance throughout the season, while volunteers handle day-to-day maintenance.

Both new and returning volunteers are encouraged to apply to help create a place for neighbours to connect and enjoy outdoor skating.

Applications close Sunday, November 8th.

Witnesses are needed after a hit-and-run collision left a pedestrian with serious injuries in Burlington.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) says it happened on Wednesday, October 7th, at around 11:25 p.m., when a pedestrian was struck by a westbound vehicle on Fairview Street, just east of Brant Street.

The adult male pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

According to investigators, the collision occurred in the right, curbside lane of Fairview Street. The vehicle did not remain at the scene and was last seen travelling westbound at a high rate of speed.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-coloured, compact SUV. The driver and passenger were both described as males, approximately 20 years old.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has seized two firearms and laid multiple charges against two North York men following an investigation into thefts in Milton.

This investigation began after two suspects broke into a parked vehicle in Milton on September 2nd, stealing cash and valuables, including a watch. The following day, the same individuals allegedly attended Elements Casino in Milton and stole cash from a guest services drawer before fleeing when confronted by security.

Investigators identified the two accused, who police allege were involved in both incidents.

On October 1st, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in North York and arrested both suspects. Police seized a stolen Glock 17 handgun with three loaded magazines, a Norinco Type 56 rifle with two loaded magazines and a spring-assisted knife described as a prohibited device. Officers also recovered items allegedly stolen during the vehicle break-in in Milton.

38-year-old Iraklii Shariia and 47-year-old Davit Kukhilava, both of North York, each face the following charges:

• Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• Two counts of contravention of storage regulations
• Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
• Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
• Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
• Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
• Possession of a weapon obtained by a criminal offence
• Theft over $5,000
• Theft under $5,000

Kukhilava also faces an additional charge of possession of a prohibited device.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Have a broken lamp, clock, or toaster sitting around?

Sustainable Milton invites you to bring it to their next Repair Café this month.

Skilled volunteers will be on hand to help you repair household items for free, promoting a more sustainable way to reduce waste. From bicycle tune-ups to fixing small appliances and electronics, the event encourages residents to try and repair before retiring their belongings. However, electrical repairs must be pre-booked by emailing repair@sustainablemilton.ca. Drop-in electrical items won’t be accepted.

To guarantee a repair time, residents are asked to email in advance with details of their item. Items requiring new parts may need a follow-up appointment at a future Repair Café.

It’s happening on Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St David’s Presbyterian, located at 132 Main Street North in Campbellville.
