Officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the OPP, alongside Orangeville Fire Services, responded to a fire in the Town of Orangeville.
On January 10th, just before 4:00p.m., Dufferin OPP responded to a fully engulfed homeless encampment at a location on First Street in Orangeville. No injuries were reported.
Orangeville Fire Services were able to put out the fire and confirm there were no safety concerns. Dufferin OPP would like to thank the number of people who placed calls to emergency services in relation to this fire.
Dufferin OPP recognizes that the cold weather poses many risks to people living unhoused. Out of the Cold is a program run by Choices Youth Shelter located at 59 Town Line, and will operate seven days a week from 9:00p.m., to 8:00a.m. This program partners with the County of Dufferin and the Town of Orangeville to try and assist in providing shelter to encourage people living unhoused to come inside, out of the cold.
