Significant Weather Events
Yesterday, Dufferin County declared a Significant Weather Event, which means an approaching or
occurring weather hazard has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the road
network within a municipality.
Winter hazards consist of:
• Snow accumulation of 25 cm or more during a 24-hour period.
• Ice formation to last more than a 12-hour period.
• Sustained wind speeds of more than 40 km/hour causing reduction in visibility of 400m or
less, over a four-hour period.
When a municipality declares a significant event, the road network is considered to be in a state of repair. Being in a state of repair means that the municipality is providing the best service possible, however, additional cautions should still be observed while using the road network, as it may take longer to perform typical winter maintenance activities.
