Health Canada has approved Pfizer’s anti-viral pill for adults with mild or moderate cases of COVID-19.
Clinical trials show the drug is almost 90% effective at preventing serious illness in higher-risk patients, who take it within the first five days of being infected.
It is not authorized for teens or patients already hospitalized with COVID-19.
There are 8,521 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario today, and currently 578 people being treated in ICU across the province.
