Orangeville mayor Sandy Brown introduced a notice of motion during the most recent council meeting that he hopes will fill communication holes between businesses and the municipality.
Last month, council decided to situate the Orangeville Transit transfer station along Broadway, in the downtown core.
Brown believes the town didn’t do its due diligence to communicate with business stakeholders before making a decision.
Although the details of Brown’s notice of motion aren’t fleshed out, he’d like to introduce a charter which ensures town outreach with impacted community members.
On Monday (May 11) night, council received delegations from downtown business owners arguing against the chosen location of the bus station and pointing out they weren’t consulted prior to council’s final say.
Brown says a press release of future town initiatives just doesn’t cut it.
Council representative on the BIA board, Debbie Sherwood says the board represents all BIA members and not individual members, so it felt it was up to the town to notify businesses affected by the new bus hub location.
