Baby Molly couldn’t wait to make her entrance in the world and her mother, Stephanie Sant ended up delivering her in Headwaters Hospital’s parking lot.
On May 4th, Sant suddenly began having contractions and knew her baby was coming.
She alerted her partner, Jeff Van Noort and the two quickly made their way to Headwaters Health Care Centre.
Just minutes away from the hospital, Sant’s water broke and she told Van Noort she was having major contractions and needed to push.
Van Noort quickly pulled up to the hospital’s entrance, that’s when nurse, Karla Bell heard his cries for help.
Bell said she saw immediately what was going on and she took off her coat and grabbed some gloves.
With just two strong pushes, baby Molly was born right in her parent’s car just before 7 am.
Sant, Van Noort, Molly and 2-year-old big brother, Tommy are safe and happy at home.
As for Bell, she says she’s never had so much excitement in her 35-year nursing career.
‘I didn’t have time to think’, says Bell, who knew she had to spring to action once Van Noort yelled out the baby was crowning while Sant was sitting in the front seat of their vehicle.
‘The coronavirus it seems just takes over your life and it was like you know, since it happened Monday, you think joyful thoughts’.
Despite the happy outcome, Bell says the situation was stressful and when she visited the family in the obstetrics unit later that day, it all sunk in and she felt comforted knowing mom and baby were safe.
