Wrestling fans went wild when WWE Hall of Famer, Edge, entered the ring at Sunday’s (Jan. 26) Royal Rumble in Houston.
Edge a.k.a. Adam Copeland from Orangeville, competed in his first professional wrestling match after a nine-year retirement, entering the men’s competition as the 21st contestant.
Fans at Minute Maid Park and on social medium erupted.
Edge lasted 23 minutes in the Rumble before being eliminated by Roman Reigns.
The 11-time world champion was forced to retire in 2011 after being diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis.
Rumours of Edge’s return to full-time in-ring-action had been circulating since SummerSlam last August in Toronto where he landed a spear on Elias. However, Edge denied those rumours.
According to multiple reports, Edge has signed a long-term contract with the WWE. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Edge’s first feud will be with Randy Orton. Edge’s next in-ring action could be at the Super ShowDown next month in Saudi Arabia or at WrestleMania 36.
