Contract talks between the Ontario government and the unions representing elementary and secondary school teachers has broken down.
On Tuesday, both the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) will start job action.
Both unions are promising the work-to-rule campaigns won’t compromise students’ education.
Services ETFO will withdraw:
- Teachers will not file the Progress Report, the Term 1 Report Card or the Kindergarten Communication of Learning.
- Teachers will not participate in any EQAO-related activities.
- Teachers will not participate in any school board or Ministry of Education professional learning offered outside of the instructional day, including the Fundamentals of Math Strategy
- and more.
Services OSSTF will withdraw:
- Participation in EQAO preparation or testing
- Completion/Submission of Ministry of Education Data Reports
- Participation in School Board Professional Activities that are based on Ministry of Education or School Board Initiatives
- Participation in unpaid staff meetings outside the regular school day
- Providing comments on any secondary provincial report cards
- Will not perform the work of another Bargaining Unit, even if directed by administration
High school teachers will also engage in “information pickets” before and after school and during lunch periods.
