Local artist Steven Volpe is up for the Salt Spring Island National Art Prize.
He entered his 2018 piece “Winter Gathering” for the show in Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
The Salt Spring National Art Prize is a biennial competition and offers $38,000 in awards.
More than 19,000 pieces of art were submitted, but only 50 were named finalists. Finalists may be selected to win one of nine awards, six selected by jurors and three selected by public vote.
The show launched this past weekend and award winners will be announced on October 19.
