Heading into the long weekend, we’re continuing to focus on the upcoming federal election and local candidates.
Milton is being split in half to create two separate ridings this time around. ‘Milton East’ will pair with ‘Halton Hills South’ for one of them, and the other will see ‘Milton West’ pair with ‘Burlington North’. Read more on the new ridings here.
With candidates now official, we’re reaching out and interviewing them to hear what they have to say on a number of topics suggested by listeners.
Shahbaz Mahmood Khan is an Independent candidate for the Milton East-Halton Hills South riding. He’s the lone Independent candidate for either Milton riding.
Here’s our interview:
INT – Let’s start this off nice and easy: Give me an elevator pitch on your platform as an Independent candidate. What are your priorities?

INT – Focusing on affordability… Cost of living is high in Milton and Halton, whether that be housing, groceries, and seemingly anything else. What can the federal government do to address affordability in this country, and especially here in Milton?

INT – Going off that, buying local and buying Canadian, the tariffs are on everyone’s mind. How should Canada handle the ongoing trade war with the United States.

INT – Taking a side step here to focus on environmental issues. Locally, there’s two very prominent ones that Miltonians and the Town of Milton have been fighting against for years now – the CN Intermodal Hub and the Campbellville Quarry. Should you be elected as the next MP for the area, would you help fight against these issues?

INT – Those are the three questions we got most often from listeners when we asked for their input. This last one is more open ended. Do you have anything you’d like to focus on that we haven’t addressed? Any issues, topics, concerns, priorities?
