The Town of Orangeville has released an update on the recent cyberattack. The Town is continuing to investigate the cybersecurity incident affecting various systems. Upon identification of the incident, Town staff took immediate action to safeguard information and mitigate potential risks, and in doing so we were able to limit exposure. The Town is actively collaborating with cybersecurity experts and local authorities to understand the nature and full scope of the incident.
The Town is also thoroughly reviewing and validating potentially affected systems and data to determine the impact of the incident. While still ongoing, the review has found that personal identifying information for current and former employees of the Town of Orangeville, and former employees of the Orangeville Police Service from 2005-2023 may have been affected. It is important to note that the degree of impact varies by individual.
Notifications to those impacted has begun. Notifications will continue to be sent if more data is discovered. Potentially impacted individuals may receive notifications by email or mail. Credit monitoring will be offered as a precautionary measure depending on the type of information potentially affected. Specific details will be shared in notification letters.
