We’re continuing with our series of interviews with Milton candidates in the 2025 Provincial Election.
Each candidate has been offered the same opportunity as the others: a chance to answer the same questions as the rest, with each one breaking down a concern or issue affecting Miltonians.
Our second interview is with Kristina Tesser Derksen of the Ontario Liberal Party. Residents will know her as the Town Councillor for Milton’s Ward 1 since 2018. She chose to join us in-person at our Milton studios.
Here’s our interview:
INT – Give me an elevator pitch on your campaign/platform.

INT – Hot topic of 2025 has been the tariff threats so far. I’ve seen it suggested by people that it’s the reason for this early election. What are your thoughts on this trade war that has sprung up?

INT – One thing that I covered last year in the by-election, and then as well in 2022 – I’m sure we even covered it in 2018 way back when… Transit – and specifically the two-way, all-day GO service that is continually promised to Miltonians. Where do you stand on transit here in Milton?

INT – I want to also focus on education. My wife works for the school board, so I’m well aware of the cuts made to education over the years. Milton residents have also had a longstanding issue with a lack of space for students. What’s your stance on education?

INT – Whenever I do these interviews for an election, I always like to give a voice to the local environmental groups. The people fighting things like the Campbellville Quarry and the CN Intermodal Hub. Do you plan on addressing these concerns and helping these residents with their cause, should you be elected?

INT – Next one is on growth. As a Councillor, you’re obviously very aware of the provincial mandate put in place for Milton to grow to a certain population number by 2051. Yourself and the Town of Milton are working to figure out how the best way to get to that number. What are your thoughts on this provincial mandate and how to help the Town establish the proper infrastructure to meet this growth?

INT – Before I let you go, is there anything else that we haven’t covered that you’d like to address?
