2025 is here and winter is officially underway.
Thing is, Canadians aren’t the only ones seeking warmth indoors – rodents are moving in too. These unwelcome guests may pose serious health and safety risks by carrying deadly diseases, contaminating food, and causing costly damage, such as chewing through electrical wiring and gnawing holes in walls and other structures. Even worse, they need only a small opening to get inside: rats can squeeze through a gap the size of a quarter, while mice require just a hole as small as your pinky finger.
Orkin Canada, the country’s leading pest control provider, is encouraging home and business owners to take proactive steps to keep rodents out this winter:
- Inspect your home’s exterior: Check for cracks and crevices where rodents could enter.
- Seal all openings: Use weather-resistant sealant reinforced with steel wool to block entry points.
- Keep it clean: Regularly vacuum and clean to remove food crumbs and reduce clutter.
- Try winter cleaning: A thorough cleaning now can help deter pests – you don’t have to wait until spring!
