Dufferin OPP responded to reports of attempted Frauds in the area, and would like to notify the public of a new trend.
In December, Dufferin OPP were contacted by individual’s who were sent a text message from whom appeared to be the Ontario Government, in regards to traffic violations (see attached photo).
With the increase in Photo Radar- Automated Speed Enforcement, some fraudsters are attempting to cash in on a common driving infraction. Please understanding that if you are ticketed for speeding using these devices, you will not receive a text message. The ticket will be mailed out to the registered address of the vehicle’s owner, making them aware of the infraction and the corresponding penalty.
As members of the public become more informed and educated about fraud, fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated. Police are strongly recommending that people slow the process down and verify all information that they receive before proceeding.
