The Town of Caledon has been served with a lawsuit filed by a group called Democracy Caledon that challenges the 12 priority zoning by-laws that the Town passed in June 2024. The suit alleges that the by-laws are beyond the powers of Council’s authority because they do not conform with certain land use policies as set out in the Town’s Official Plan.
According to the Town, the 12 by-laws were enacted in accordance with the provincial legislation, and in keeping with all procedural requirements of both the Planning Act and the Municipal Act.
Caledon Mayor Annette Groves says “our solicitors have advised that this lawsuit is completely without merit, and the Town will be vigorously defending it.”
