The Town of Orangeville is extending its fare-free transit pilot program until July 2027, after a unanimous Council decision this week.
Ridership has more than doubled since the program’s introduction, with an expected 262,780 riders by the end of 2024, compared to just over 100,000 in 2019.
Mayor Lisa Post highlighted the positive social and economic impact on residents, particularly seniors, who are enjoying greater community engagement.
In addition to the fare-free program, Orangeville Transit is reviewing bus accessibility and considering new route options to enhance service.
Public feedback will be sought on these changes, with details to be shared soon.
