A message from Mayor Lisa Post on Facebook this morning, proclaiming September as National Service and Guide Dog Awareness Month.
“Thank you to our incredible four-legged friends who play a crucial role in the lives of people everyday by assisting them with their daily living and a special thanks to the people in our community who dedicate countless hours to training future service dogs.”
Service and Guide Dogs play a significant role in promoting accessibility and inclusion in Ontario’s communities.
Service Dogs undergo rigorous training to help individuals with tasks such as opening doors, retrieving items, and providing stability.
Guide dogs are trained to navigate obstacles, stop at curbs, and help their handlers safely cross streets.
In addition to practical assistance, they offer emotional support and companionship.
