Premier Doug Ford was in Caledon Tuesday morning announcing plans to proceed with building Highway 413.
Construction is expected to begin sometime in 2025.
Ford ensured that environmental protections have been put in place for the project.
Highway 413 is intended to alleviate gridlock and get drivers across Halton, Peel and York regions faster.
The 52-kilometre stretch of highway will include extensions to Highways 410 and the 427.
According to the province, the cost of the project is $10 billion, and will save drivers up to 30 minutes each way on their commute.
