Daily WTF – Object that crashed through Florida roof may have come from ISS
The sky is falling! A Florida man had something crash through his roof recently, and this item is now being investigated by NASA. The two-pound piece of metal is reportedly part of a pallet of depleted batteries from the International Space Station. According to NASA, around the time this piece of metal crashed through this man’s roof, the planned re-entry of the pallet went awry. It all came back down to earth uncontrolled, and thus, you have a two-pound piece of metal crashing into a house in Florida. The good news: No one was reportedly injured. Mission complete!
Georgetown and Milton will get new schools, according to Minister Lecce
We’re about to get two new schools in Milton and Halton Hills! Georgetown will get a new Catholic elementary school, while Milton gets a French Catholic secondary school. Also in this announcement from Education Minister Stephen Lecce, Milton District High School will be getting an expansion. All three projects combined will total nearly $80 million. No timeline was provided, but past projects suggest this could all be done in a few years time.

The work will take place on High Point, between Regional Road 25 and Parkhill Drive, near the Conestoga College campus. It’s expected to start this month and end sometime in May. No road closures are expected, but delays are possible.
Scientists toss 350,757 coins to prove theory that coin tosses aren’t 50/50
Tails never fails? Well, you should actually be looking at the coin before flipping it. Researchers wanted to see just how 50/50 a coin flip actually is, and they found that it’s not as even as you’d expect. They flipped 46 different coins for a total of more than 350,000 times and they found that coins have what they call a “same-side bias.” What is that? Well, a flipped coin has a greater chance at landing on the side it started on compared to the alternative. They said that if you were to bet a dollar on flipping a coin, and repeat that bet 1,000 times, if all you did was pick the side of the coin facing up before it was flipped, you’d walk away with roughly $19 on average. They add that from a betting standpoint compared to blackjack and roulette, those are pretty good odds! So, now you have a new strategy the next time a coin flip comes into play… Whether you have the patience to flip it 1,000 times to get the full pay off, that’s up to you!

Next week, they’ll welcome in the Seattle Mariners as fans will get a chance to see all the new upgrades, including new seats in the 100 section. They also will have new food options, which have the internet drooling. They include Hot Maple & Bacon Hot Dog, Stuffed Jamaican Patties, Loaded Mac & Cheese, and a “Touch ‘Em All, Joe” Spritz. It’s a long list of new items, with each one surely to cost you an arm and a leg… I’ll stick with Loonie Dogs on Tuesday, thank you very much!
Duck at local animal sanctuary celebrates 17th birthday
Here’s some good news for you: an animal sanctuary went viral recently for celebrating their duck’s 17th birthday! Erna the Crested Pekin has been with West Place Animal Sanctuary since they opened in 2007. The birthday is quite the marker, as her species is only expected to live between 8-12 years long. I will say, looking at the pictures, that duck is every bit of 17-years-old as you’d expect. The sweet girl has the hair of Larry David! Happy birthday, Erna the Duck! Hopefully you enjoyed your cake topped with blueberries.
A scammer pretending to be Keanu Reeves hit her up. She hit back.
A woman has released a book warning people about the dangers of romance scams. Years ago, Becky Holmes was hit up by a person claiming to be Keanu Reeves. Instead of ignoring the obvious scam, she replied. That journey into the dark underbelly of romance fraud is now a best selling novel “Keanu Reeves Is Not In Love With You,” which is a great title for a book. I’m gonna give this a read, but I do find it amusing to think, “what if?” You know? Like, what if Keanu Reeves is out there, reaching out to people, searching for love, and he just keeps getting shut down because everyone believes it’s a scam. I believe you, Keanu. I know that you’re in love with me, it’s okay!
Travis Kelce bringing music to Kansas City with 2nd annual Kelce Jam music festival
With Travis Kelce becoming a household name for non-football fans this past year, it’s great to learn that he actually has a music festival that he runs in Kansas City! Kelce Jam will be headlined by Lil’ Wayne, Diplo, and 2Chainz. People are a little upset that Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, will not be performing, but she has a good reason: Swift will be in Sweden for her tour. Kind of more important, I’d imagine. Kelce Jam 2024 is scheduled for May 18th at the Azura Amphitheater in Kansas. Sounds like it’ll be a fun time!
Doggie Playdates Can Prevent Them From Developing Canine Dementia
If you’re a new dog parent and you’re worried about introducing Baby Fido to other dogs, a study says, you should go for it! According to research done by scientists in California, doggie playdates can play a key role in preventing dementia in dogs. They found that when dogs play with other dogs of the same-sex, they experience development in the hippocampus, which helps with cognition. The scientists also feel this research could be a step towards combatting diseases like Alzheimer’s in humans, as well. So, get the dogs together at the dog park… Both you and Fido could benefit more than you expected.
