When you look in the National Library Of Medicine,
Savant syndrome is known as a rare but extraordinary condition, in which persons with serious mental disabilities including autistic disorder have some ‘island of genius’.
Sahil Prashar is a local 24 year old from rural Caledon.
Due to his condition, he is unable to communicate.
In speaking with his Father Anoop, he says Sahil has never had a friend, no wallet or phone.
He has no concept of money, doesn’t know about genders – all he sees is human beings.
Sahil is also a very, very talented singer.
Sahil and his Father have been playing music together for 10+ years now.
To Sahil, music is a game – unraveling the vocal techniques used by artists, he does vocal exercises everyday.
Last month, Anoop began making a list of songs Sahil can sing, and it’s currently around 90-100.
In further conversation about music with Mr.Prashar, I mentioned I was a huge fan of Burton Cummings.
I was then sent a video of Sahil performing one of Burtons classics – Stand Tall.
