A Milton woman is facing possession charges alongside a Quebec man following a traffic stop in Cambridge.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) says the stop was on Wednesday, May 31st at roughly 3:30 a.m. in the area of Hespeler Road and Eagle Street North. Officers on proactive patrol stopped the vehicle for having unauthorized plates.
Through an investigation, the officers determined that the driver of the vehicle was currently wanted by Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, London Police Service, and the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police for criminal offences including assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, fraud, and uttering threats.
As part of the investigation, police located and seized a conducted energy weapon and identity documents.
The driver, an unnamed 24-year-old Quebec man and the passenger, an unnamed 20-year-old Milton woman, were jointly charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The woman was also charged with possession of identity documents and possession of a counterfeit stamp.
The man accused was charged with several additional offences, including:
- Fail to comply with a release order (two counts)
- Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
- Obstruct police
- Use plate not authorized for motor vehicle
- Have care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
Both accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
