Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 today (September 8th), after 70 years on the throne.
She was Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign and the longest reign of a British monarch.
The Royal Family released a statement on Twitter stating that “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Her 73-year-old son Prince Charles, now automatically becomes King.

Halton Regional Police Service has lowered their flags to half-mast.

Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz shared his thoughts on the Queen’s passing, issuing a statement on Thursday:
“It is with heavy hearts, the Town of Milton joins the world in mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with The Royal Family and everyone around the world grieving Her Majesty.
“As Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, her loss will be greatly felt around the globe.
“With a 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II has been the only monarch many members of our community have known.
“We are grateful for her record-setting length of service to Canada and the world.
“The flags at Town Hall and Town of Milton facilities will be at half-mast in her honour.”
