An Etobicoke man has been arrested and charged by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) in a human trafficking investigation.
The investigation was began in June. Through that, investigators were able to find enough reason to arrest and charge 29-year-old Andre Davis.
On Thursday, August 18th, a search warrant was executed at a unit in a large apartment complex in Etobicoke which Davis, also known as “Dre” or “Dre Stax”, was bound by court orders to reside at. However, upon execution Davis was not located.
Soon after Toronto Police were alerted to a male running from the area. Toronto Police eventually located and arrested Davis. A second apartment connected to Davis was identified during this incident. This apartment was later searched pursuant to warrant by Halton Police investigators. Evidence was found that will assist in furthering the human trafficking investigation.
“This investigation is another example of our Human Trafficking Unit’s commitment to reducing trafficking networks and facilitating safety among victims and survivors,” says Deputy Chief Jeff Hill. “This is achieved with the collaboration of our police partners and non-government agencies. The Halton Regional Police will be relentless in our pursuit to apprehend those who perpetuate this heinous crime.”
Andre Davis has now been charged with the following offences:
- Trafficking in Persons
- Material Benefit from trafficking in persons (two counts)
- Withhold or destroy documents
- Material Benefit resulting from sexual services
- Advertise Sexual Services
- Procuring
- Trafficking of a Person Under 18
- Material Benefit from Sexual Services Provided by Person Under 18
- Procuring person under 18
- Assault
- Utter threat to cause death or bodily harm
- Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)
Davis has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday, August 19th.
