Currently, there is no meat processing facility in Dufferin County.
This results in our local farmers having to leave the County, in order to get their meat processed.
Not only has this negatively impacted the bottom line of farmers, but has also affected the sustainability of Dufferin’s agriculture sector.
Next year, the Corporation of Dufferin County will bring forward their own Meat Processing Project, that will attempt to keep the county’s farm-to-table system closer to home with the creation of a facility made by producers, for producers.
Fm101 spoke with the Manager of Economic Development for Dufferin County, Karisa Downey, to talk more about the project.
How has the absence of a Meat Processing Facility here in Dufferin County, effected local Farmers?
