This afternoon at Town Hall, Mayor Sandy Brown and Dufferin County Cultural Resource Circle Co-founder Debbie Egerton, raised a flag in recognition of National Indigenous History Month .
Mayor Brown also proclaimed June 21st as National Indigenous Day.
June 21st was chosen because it corresponds to the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Many generations of Indigenous Peoples’ groups celebrate their heritage and culture at this time of year .
On National Indigenous Day, the Town of Orangeville urge all residents to take the opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contributions of the Indigenous peoples to our community and Country.
