Now that COVID-19 vaccines are available to certain people in Canada, that begs the question, are there any provincial mandates requiring certain individuals to get vaccinated?
Toronto lawyer, Michael Comartin went over the current situation in Ontario.
He says public health agencies wouldn’t need permission from the province to enforce vaccination mandates on health care workers.
However, according to Comichael, public health agencies would have to wrestle with unions representing health care workers in order to force them to get vaccinated.
But for non-unionized workers, employers could theoretically fire workers for not getting their shots.
Public health agencies could enforce a mandate if there is scientific evidence proving a vaccine against the virus is effective and that the illness presents considerable risk of transmission.
