Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health’s top doc recommends the province places the region in the red zone.
Dr. Nicola Mercer points to increases in cases over the past week along with increasing hospitalizations as to reasons behind the recommendation.
If the province follows Dr. Mercer’s recommendation, the announcement would be made on Friday and the change would take effect on Monday (Dec. 14).
Entering into the red zone would mean restaurants would only be permitted to service 10 patrons indoors (4 people seated together) and social and organized gatherings would be limited to 5 people indoors and 25 outdoors.
Dr. Mercer says, “Moving to Red will place significant pressure on every resident and business in our region. Each of us has the power to choose actions that help prevent the spread of the virus, that keep us safe, that keep our friends and family safe. I’m asking everyone one of us to make those choices starting right now. Going to a dinner party or gathering right now may mean that your family is dealing with COVID-19 over the holidays.”
Today public health announced 24 new cases in the region and 12 hospitalizations.
There are 7 new cases in Dufferin and 23 active ones.
