While Canada was making an international splash announcing it would ban single-use plastics by the end of next year, Mono was already one of first governments in Ontario to pass its own ban.
Mono deputy mayor John Creelman says the municipality’s bylaw, which goes into effect on New Year’s Day, would be superseded by the federal ban but either way, he believes businesses should be given enough time to adjust.

It’s not so black and white says Creelman, who points to a Northern Ireland Assembly study that found “it takes four times as much energy to produce paper bags than plastic ones.”
