This past week Premier Doug Ford announced an $83million dollar plan to help out organizations like the Royal Canadian Legion.
Since the pandemic struck Legions across the country have felt the financial pinch with many branches facing the real possibility of closing.
In Orangeville, Legion President Barry Kimber says that the first few months of the pandemic looked grim for the branch, but a Go-Fund Me campaign has helped to keep the lights on.
While the announcement of the financial aid from the province sounded great, Kimber says that after going through the 60 page document, it became apparent that the financial aid is only for upgrades to existing buildings and not for the day to day expenses of keeping the Legion branches open.
