When Mono resident, Mitch Singh was forced to work from home during the pandemic, he was faced with what many rural residents also came to grips with — poor internet service.
So he decided to do something about it.
Singh started his own wireless internet provider company called Mono Wireless, hopped on to the myFM transmitter tower on Blind Line and is now ready to service customers within the tower’s range, which includes southwestern Mono.
Singh wanted his fellow Mono residents to also benefit from reliable high speed internet.
So far, customers who have already signed on to the serviceĀ are quickly getting used to the luxury of high speed broadband normally reserved for urban dwellers.
While Orangeville is in the process of getting fibre optic broadband, Singh says wireless internet was a quick solution to Mono’s lagging internet problem as the municipality is sparsely populated and has a hillier topography than Orangeville.
Mono Wireless is currently working with Mono council with the goal of getting onto the municipality’s water tower in order to service a greater number of residents.
