Parents with children who previously attended the Jean Hamlyn Day Care Centre, rest assured a new daycare provider will take the reigns from Dufferin County.
Back in November, Dufferin County, who previously leased the Orangeville-owned facility and ran a daycare program, recommended pulling out of the service as the facility continued to run a deficit and felt the pinch of reduced provincial funding.
The following month, Orangeville agreed to accept requests for proposals from other daycare operators vying to replace the County.
This week, Orangeville town staff informed council that the YMCA of Greater Toronto was the top contender in the RFP process.
Councillor Debbie Sherwood was relieved to hear parents with kids previously enrolled at Jean Hamlyn won’t experience disruptions from the service they were used to under Dufferin County.
Parents of children who already had a placement at Jean Hamlyn will be offered their spot back when the Y begins its lease agreement on August 1st.
On Tuesday (Jun. 9), the province announced daycares are permitted to reopen this Friday.
