Much of the GTA is benefitting from a significant dip in gas prices, but Orangeville isn’t.
According to gas price reporting app, Gas Buddy, prices at gas stations located in Orangeville’s core range between 99.9 to 108.9 cents per litre.
But travel just outside of Orangeville to Mono Mills for example, and prices are as low as 92.9 cents per litre.
President of Canadians for Affordable Energy, Dan McTeague says the plummeting gas prices are due to an oil price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia over the weekend.
The coronavirus outbreak (declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization Wednesday afternoon), and rail blockades in Canada aren’t helping either.
As for an explanation for higher local gas prices, McTeague attributes the phenomenon to gas stations in Orangeville still being on their expensive gas supply from last week.
He also says Orangeville gas suppliers are apprehensive about dropping their prices after a history of offering cheap gas 4 to 5 years ago, something he says isn’t sustainable.
According to McTeague, consumers can expect gas prices in Orangeville to dip to 92 cents per litre by Thursday (Mar. 12) afternoon.
