The Bank of Canada has launched public consultations to select an iconic Canadian to appear on the new five-dollar note.
Canada’s first Francophone Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier has been on the bill since 1972.

In 2018, the Bank of Canada went through a similar public process for the ten-dollar note. With input from the public, civil rights activist Viola Desmond was chosen to dawn the bill.
Canadians can submit nominations for the new five-dollar bill at bankofcanada.ca.
