Liz Ruegg, who spent ten years at Headwaters Health Care Centre, has died from cancer.
Current President and CEO Kim Delahunt shared the sad news on Saturday (Dec. 28). Ruegg, who was 66-years-old, died peacefully at her home that morning.
“We are profoundly saddened to share with you all that our friend, colleague and former Headwaters Health Care Centre President and CEO, Liz Ruegg, passed away earlier today, Dec. 28, 2019,” said Delahunt in a press release.
Ruegg started her career as a nurse. She joined Headwaters Health Care Centre in 2006 as the VP Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. She was the hospital’s President and CEO for five years leading up to her retirement in 2016.
“Over the course of more than 40 years in health care she was most often characterized and praised for her continuous passion to deliver care that was anchored in the needs of patients and families,” says Delahunt.
“When not in the hospital, Liz could be found combining her other passions in life – family, fashion and travel. With a well-worn passport from years spent criss-crossing the globe with family and friends Liz “retired” and inspired others to appreciate the world as a local travel agent. It was important to her to live an inspired life, and in her own words “Live life to the fullest and live every day as if it were your last”.”
“She was proud of Headwaters and what this organization means and represents to the residents of Dufferin- Caledon and beyond. While this is a sad occasion Liz would not want us to dwell on it, rather to press on and continue to be inspired and support each other to provide the best possible care to our community, patients and families.”
A funeral service for Ruegg is being held at Harriston United Church on Saturday, January 4 at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at the Harriston Legion.
