The Upper Grand District School Board will update students and parents as soon as possible with plans for Wednesday (Dec. 4) following the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation’s (OSSTF) announcement that teachers will hold a one-day strike.
High school teachers and support staff will escalate their job action by hitting the picket lines for the entire day.
Minister of Education Stephen Lecce is urging the union to agree to a third-party mediation process, which he says the province has already proposed dates for, however, OSSTF has yet to agree to.
Late on Thursday, OSSTF president Harvey Bischof tweeted that the province had “now” offered some bargaining dates and that they will meet over the weekend and into next week.
Earlier this week, public elementary and secondary school withdrew from administrative tasks such as meetings outside of working hours, standardized testing and leaving comments on report cards.
Elementary and high school teachers have been without contracts since August.
