Pro-carbon tax stickers are starting to pop up around Orangeville.
The stickers counter the Progressive Conservative government’s anti-carbon tax stickers that became mandatory on gas pumps on August 30.
The pro-carbon tax stickers were launched at the end of August by grassroots group CarbonTaxWorks. It describes itself as a group of Ontarians that value truth who won’t stand for misinformation about the federal carbon tax.
When asked if the pro stickers were legally allowed on gas pumps, an energy ministry spokesperson didn’t say yes or no. Instead, they provided information about the government issued stickers.
“On May 29, 2019, Ontario passed the Federal Carbon Tax Transparency Act (FCTTA) mandating the placement of information stickers on all gasoline pumps effective since August 30, 2019, as a means to ensure consumers are aware of the federal carbon tax and its impact on gasoline prices. The point is to educate the public, not to create a burden for hardworking small business owners. Wherever the carbon tax is being challenged in court, Ontario wants to be part of that fight.”
Earlier this week, Energy Minister Greg Rickford maintained that the province doesn’t plan to stop its fight against the carbon.
The provincially mandated stickers show the price of the carbon tax on fuel, growing from 4.4 cents per litre in 2019 to 11 cents per litre by 2022.
The CarbonTaxWorks stickers and its website are to show what the government isn’t telling you about the carbon tax.
Last May, Ontario Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner unveiled his party’s own sticker that shows the costs of climate change.
