Orangeville Police Service’s (OPS) 2018 annual report shows that calls for service continue to rise, but Orangeville remains one of Canada’s safest communities.
In 2018, officers responded to 21,220 occurances compared to 20,990 in 2017.
The number of violent crimes in the community were down 11 per cent from 266 incidents in 2017 to 238 last year.
Property crimes were still high at 668, but OPS’ clearance rate increased by 62 per cent over the 2017 clearance rate.
The number of drug offences stayed roughly the same with 33 charges laid.
OPS say traffic and pedestrian safety remains a top priority. In 2018, there were 518 collisions that resulted in property damage, a 58.9 per cent increase over the year prior.
Police say they hear your frustration with the growing amount of commuter traffic using Orangeville roads and are assigning officers to set strategies, conduct enforcement and liase with community partners to solve the issues.
In total, 3,708 Highway Traffic Act tickets and 24 impaired driving charges were laid last year.
OPS also reports a gun was drawn on two occassions and tasers were displayed six times and fired twice.
