As Orangeville continues to grow, so does its public transit.
Pending approval from the feds, Ontario is investing $697,000 towards Orangeville’s public transit system.
Dufferin-Caledon MPP, Sylvia Jones explains the monies are coming from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, which is dishing out $30 billion in federal, provincial and local funds towards infrastructure projects across the country over the next 10 years.
The municipality has butted heads with the Orangeville Food Bank over the proposed location of the transit transfer station at the Edelbrock Centre since it’s concerned bus fumes will pollute produce grown at the community gardens nearby.
But Mayor Sandy Brown says he thinks Centre Street is the most strategic location for the transit expansions, allowing for smooth route synchronicity.
Brown says council likely won’t commence transit talks until the town’s policing file gets underway this fall.
