Orangeville council is continuing to look at ways of lowering your tax bill.
At its most recent meeting, council supported councillor Todd Taylor’s notice of motion to investigate the future of the Orangeville Railway Development Corporation (ODRC), including its potential sale.
The rail line between Orangeville and Brampton costs taxpayers $450,000 annually.
Councillor Joe Andrews, who also sits on the Economic Development Committee, says from an economic point of view …
The Town of Orangeville purchased the rail line in 2000 with financial help from the federal government and County of Dufferin.
The rail line is currently operated by Trillium Railway Co. Ltd., which runs trains every Tuesday and Friday.
Prior to Trillium’s takeover, Cando Rail operated the line as well as the Credit Valley Explorer. The tourist train attracted about 14,000 visitors annually, but stopped running in 2018.
Council is hoping town staff will be able to provide more information to them by October.
