ONTARIO CORONER INVESTIGATING THREE DEATHS POSSIBLY LINKED TO RECENT HEAT WAVE
7/11/2018 9:49:46 AM

Ontario's chief coroner is investigating three deaths possibly linked to the recent heat wave.

Dr. Dirk Huyer says the deaths were reported to his office within the last four days.

He could not disclose where the deaths occurred.

It may be weeks or months before the coroner determines the true cause of death.

The news comes after 70 heat-related deaths were reported in Quebec.

Huyer says one reason for the large difference in numbers could be that Ontario performs autopsies before declaring a cause of death and it can take months for the results to come in.

Ontario also defines heat-related deaths differently -- only counting a death as heat-related if the temperature is the direct or major cause.
