A new mayor will be elected in Shelburne.

Mayor Ken Bennington has withdrawn his nomination seeking re-election in the upcoming municipal election. He made the announcement on Monday (July 9).

Bennington tells myFM News that serving the Town of Shelburne for the last 20 years has been an honour.

Bennington wouldn't reveal what's next for him, but says that a "new and exciting chapter" awaits and he's looking forward to it.

Reflecting on his time on council, Bennington says the redevelopment of Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex, the redevelopment of the baseball diamonds and the new pavillion in memory of Natasha Patterson are recent accomplishments he is proud of.

Until Monday, Bennington was the only candidate seeking the mayor's position. The nomination deadline is July 27.
