New vaping laws passed by Ontario's previous Liberal government have been halted by the newly elected Progressive Conservative government.

A PC spokesperson says Premier Doug Ford's regime wants more time to consult and examine rules around the laws before they come into affect.

The new rules would have regulated vaping much like smoking cigarettes.

Simon Jefferies says the PCs will work with the public, experts, and businesses to re-examine the evidence related to vaping as a smoking cessation tool.

He adds that pausing the new regulations won't change the current provisions in the Smoke Free Ontario Act and the Electronic Cigarettes Act.

Vaping advocates, including Kurt Wolf who owns Howling Vapes in Orangeville, have long argued that vaping is safer than smoking and helps people break their tabacco fix.

But public health units across Ontario have studied the impacts of vaping and agreed with restrictions the previous government's laws placed on the product.
