STRATEGY TO DELIVER CANCER CARE CLOSER TO HOME PRESENTED AT HEADWATERS HOSPITAL
6/13/2018 10:30:52 AM

The Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program has a new strategic plan to bring cancer care closer to home.

The program oversees the delivery and quality of cancer services for more than 2-million people across the Mississauga Halton and Central West Local Health Integrated Networks.

Regional Vice President Leslie Starr-Hemburrow says Cancer Care Ontario has already created four strategic plans and this is the first for their region.

Starr-Hemburrow was at Headwaters Health Care Centre on Tuesday (June 12) to present the strategic plan to hospital staff.

She says it was created with the help of frontline healthcare workers and the community.

The strategic plan has for main priorities to guide cancer service delivery: support the whole person; connect and coordinate care; optimize quality of care and experience; and excel in performance and sustainability.

Headwaters' Chief of Medicine, Dr. Jeff McKinnon, says "it is through the decision-makers at our organizations and the individuals on the ground ? frontline staff, nurses, physicians and leaders at all levels ? that we will put those priorities into action, to better cancer care services for our patients now and in the future."
