'THIS HAS KILLED ALL OF THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT' RESIDENTS UPSET WITH PENDING SALE OF SHELBURNE'S FIDDLE PARK
5/17/2018 10:19:20 AM

Longtime Shelburne resident Greg Holmes says the pending sale of Fiddle Park has "sucked all the community involvement" out of him.

Holmes is the organizer of the popular Pickin' in the Park festival held annually at Fiddle Park. A couple of years ago he commited a $125,000 donation to build a pole barn in the park.

The town has recognized the contributions Holmes and other service groups have made to Fiddle Park.

It wants to work with those groups to either rededicate their original contributions to other parks and community projects or refund their initial investment.

As for the barn, the town says it is possible to relocate it. Holmes is scheduled to meet with town staff on Friday (May 18). On Monday, Shelburne council deemed Fiddle Park surplus land. Council is scheduled to vote on a $7-million deal with a developer at its June 4 meeting.

Holmes says this news has upset a lot of people.

Residents have created a petition opposing the sale.
