DUFFERIN COUNTY COUNCILLORS FRUSTRATED WITH GREENBELT OPEN HOUSE, RESIDENTS HAVE MIXED OPINIONS ON EXPANSION
2/9/2018 9:54:47 AM

Tony Rose Arena was packed Thursday (Feb. 8) for a public open house on the proposed Greenbelt expansion.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs is looking at expanding the Greenbelt to better protect water resources. Six areas in the outer ring of the Greater Golden Horseshoe are being study.

A large swath of the study area is within Dufferin County, which is why there is a lot of mixed opinions on the proposal.

Morley Brown has a farm that is already protected under the Niagara Escarpment.

Member of Food and Water First Karl Cosack is in favour of expanding the Greenbelt.

One of the issues raised at Thursday's open house was the accuracy of the maps.

Mono Deputy Mayor Ken McGhee and the rest of Dufferin County council were not happy with how the potential expansion was presented.

County council has agreed to send a letter to the ministry with concerns about the consultation process, which will wrap up in early March.
