ORANGEVILLE BLUES & JAZZ FESTIVAL FACING FINANCIAL PRESSURES; LOOKS TO POLICE BOARD FOR HELP
1/12/2018 5:20:02 PM

Organizers of the Blues and Jazz Festival are looking for some assistance from the Orangeville Police Service Board.

They attended a board meeting to discuss how they can tackle the cost of security next year.

Founder Larry Kurtz says last year the cost of security went up just over $14,000, totaling $22,000.

Chief Wayne Kalinski says they review their operational plan every year ahead of the festival to look for reductions and savings.

Kalinski says based on last years numbers they have been able to reduce about 20 hours over the course of the weekend, but this could be subject to change based on external factors like approval from the liquor inspector.

Organizers have been tasked to provide the board with a break down of last year's budget and what the budget will look like for this year.

What the board decides to do will be discussed at a future meeting.
