DUFFERIN COUNCILLORS OPPOSED TO PUBLIC HEALTH CHANGES
11/13/2017 10:09:09 AM

Dufferin County Warden Darren White feels municipal politicians have been left in the dark.

They're opposed of changes to the proposed realignment of public health units.

Medical Officer of Health and CEO of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, Nicola Mercer, says the potential changes would create stronger relationships because the boundaries would be similar to that of the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).

Warden White is also worried that Dufferin would get lost in a realignment with Caledon and Peel.

Mono Deputy Mayor and board of health representitive, Ken McGhee, questions what would happen with local schools.

An expert panel recommends replacing the existing 36 public health units with 14 organizations.

County council has endorsed a letter from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario that opposes the plan.
