NVCA & CVCF APPLYING FOR SAME GRANT UNDER FCM'S MUNICIPALITIES FOR CLIMATE INNOVATION PROGRAM (MCIP)
10/12/2017 2:59:17 PM

The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) wants to apply for a grant to update its Integrated Watershed Management Plan.

It has been about 20 years since the plan was developed and the NVCA wants to include new ways of dealing with the risks posed by climate change because it wasn't included in the original plan.

The plan would cost $210,000. If successful, the grant under FCM's Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP) would cover 80 per cent of the costs. The rest of the cost would then be split among the NVCA's 36 members.

Shelburne and Mono council have both endorsed the plan.

The Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF) is also applying for funding under the same grant to develop a Risk Management Framework for Flood Resiliency (RMFFR) project.

Mono CAO Mark Early says the project would focus on Low Intensity Development (LID), creating protocols to make sure new development is considering climate change in its plans, and looking at infiltration.

Mono council has also endorsed this application.
