LOCAL MAYOR FEARS PROPOSED DOWNLOADING OF FILL REGULATIONS ON MUNICIPALITIES WILL BE COSTLY
4/21/2017 8:47:13 AM

Amaranth Mayor Don McIver is pushing for conservation authorities (CA) to have the power to regulate the importing and exporting of soil.

Currently under the Conservation Authorities Act, CA's don't have the authority to regulate fill and municipalities don't have the right to interfere and stop any processes.

But now he says there are talks of allowing municipalities to regulate the importing and exporting of fill under proposed changes to the Municipal Act.

McIver says if this were to see through, potential legal costs could make it costly to municipalities.

This is why he wants conservation authorities to have the ability to take on the responsibility.

Dufferin County will be sending a letter to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to voice its concerns.
