As tax season winds down, Orangeville Police is reminding residents to be vigilant when they receive a fraudulent Canada Revenue Agency email, text message, or phone call.

OPS say the CRA scam has been one of the more prevalent scams reported to police in the past year.

Fraudsters can be very convincing and aggressive in their attempt to get money from you.

They will ask for personal information insisting it is needed, so that you can receive a refund or benefit payment.

The CRA doesn't operate this way.

Police say if you get a phone call or email that sounds or looks like a scam, it probably is.
